Now that I'm 35, I'm trying to do seriously really miss them (and very stubborn) around ten pounds that, since my children were born. But with the family, work, children's activities--every mother out there know what I mean---seems impossible. I have been walking faithfully with the hubby and trying to make healthy choices when I am at the supermarket, but it still feels as if I hit a plateau. Luckily, a friend told me to try a daily food diary, which he described as another useful weapon in the war against weight gain. I thought that I had nothing to lose, but a size of dress, so I gave has fired.
I must admit that at first, the thought of recording every bite that I took in a daily food diary feel overwhelming. How could I be sure I wouldn't forget something I snacked on by car on the way to the practice of football? Or how about the bite stolen here and there when I'm making dinner for the family, or finishing up a batch of homemade chocolate? But I understand that this is the beauty of a daily food diary--is a tool that helps you take into consideration all the mindless snacking you do during the day. Once it really starts to consider all the opportunities that you should say no to those extra calories, you start to feel in control of what you're eating again!
The Internet is a wonderful place to find a daily food diary that will work for you. I found free, customized plans that will help me to track all the food in a given day with ease. I can trace my intake of carbohydrates, fats and proteins, as well as assess how the choices of the meal that day will help me meet my weight loss goals. And the daily food diary is not the only useful online tool. Many sites offer fitness magazines, virtual support groups, blogs and other free gifts to help with my diet. I also found some healthy recipes (and delicious), a calorie counter laptop that fits right into my bag and a fast-food cheat sheet to help with those lunches eaten in motion. Now I can make an informed decision about every meal and eat stick much closer to my diet plan.
After these last three weeks I'm seeing real results. I actually lost seven kilos and have only three to go to achieve my goal. Using a daily food diary is a great habit, and helped me really think about what I'm eating. I'm doing a healthier choices throughout the day and learn more about good nutrition that I ever thought possible. Those are the habits that I hope to maintain for the long haul.
